Spotlight on Discovery

singer.htmlA Discovery Middle School student, Nelvee Oberes, had been asked to sing the National Anthem and God Bless America at the U.S. Postal Service ceremony at Fort Christmas Historical Park in Christmas, Florida.

The special ceremony was held to release two Christmas stamps for the 1995 holiday season. The ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries and officials from Washington, D.C., Tallahasee, and Orange County, the philatelic societies, and the general public. The community of Christmas, Florida, was honored to be hosting this First Day Issue Ceremony.
Smerilson.htmlCongratulations to Harvey Smerilson, an eighth grade Math teacher at Discovery Middle School. Mr. Smerilson has been selected to be part of a regional mathematics leadership team. He will serve as a model in the Orange County School District and allow visitation to his classroom by other teachers during the spring and fall of 1996.

As a team member he will work to develope mathematics plans that will increase the awareness, involvement, and leadership skills of teachers in mathematics.
Ashley Stutzman, a Discovery Middle School student, has been nominated to be a JASON Student Argonaut. She is an eighth grade student.
