Sleepwalker
AUTHOR:
R.L.Stine
REVIEWED BY:
Melissa McCollum

The Sleepwalker is a novel about a woman, Mayra Barnes, who thinks another woman, Mrs. Cotter, is a witch and is casting spells on her. The setting is in the present on Fear Street. The title fits the book perfectly because when Mayra starts a job at Mrs. Cottler's, she starts to sleepwalk. The main idea the author is trying to state is not to always believe people and not to jump to conclusions. Mayra thinks that she is sleepwalking because Mrs. Cottler put a spell on her. The Sleepwalker keeps you in suspense the whole time and you find a surprise ending.

The setting of The Dare is in the present at a school and at Johanna's house. The title fits this story because the book has one great dare. This book tells how Johanna, the main character, wants to fit in popular kids. Johanna is dared by a bunch of popular kids. Throughout the story Johanna tries to decide if she should do the dare. In the story the author is trying to state that you should be yourself because if you try to be someone else you could get in trouble.

TITLE:
Hit and Run
AUTHOR:
R.L. Stine
REVIEWED BY:
Sabrina Neal

The setting of Hit and Run is in the city of Avondale in the middle of the school year. The title fits the story because kids were driving and hit and killed a guy and kept driving. This book tells how everyone plays jokes on Eddie, the main character, until he was so hurt inside that he wanted revenge. The theme the author is trying to state in this novel is that some jokes are okay to play on people, but you shouldn't take a joke too far because people can get hurt.

TITLE:
James and the Giant Peach
AUTHOR:
Roald Dahl
REVIEWED BY:
Jason Crespo

This novel takes place in a beautiful house beside the ocean somewhere in England in the twentieth century. James, a boy with low self-esteem, is the main character. He finds a giant peach which grows from seeds a man gave him. He finds amazing insects on it. He and the insects work together to overcome obstacles that come forth. I recommend this novel because it shows that you should believe in yourself. It also shows that if you don't have a friend, wait, because friends come in all sorts of ways.

TITLE:
The Secret Garden
AUTHOR:
Frances Hodgson Burnett
REVIEWED BY:
Jaclyn Tolentino

The main character in the story is a ten year old named Mary Lennox. She was brought to Misselthwaite Manor to live with her uncle because her parents had died in a tragic happening. Mary soon discovers a garden full of magic with the help of a robin.

The story takes place at Misselthwaite Manor and also at the gardens outdoors. Different parts of the story take place in different places. For instance, another part of the story takes place in a hidden room.

The Secret Garden is a story with a blend of interesting characters, miracles, and many thoughts. Mary Lennox finds a key to a garden that has been locked up for ten years. When she opens the garden door, she finds many old plants and trees that she thought were dead. Soon she started fixing up the garden, and starts considering it hers because nobody else seemed to want it or would claim it. Later in the story she meets Dickon and Colin, and they join in on the work. There was plenty of work for all of them, so most of the time it kept them busy. Colin was always pushed outside to the garden in a carriage, and then miracles started to happen. Colin thought that it was the garden that did the trick.

I think the message that the author is trying to get across is trying to get across is that anything can happen, including miracles. Just try your best, and you never know what will happen.

I would recommend this book to a friend, because I thought it was very interesting. The book shared a lot of thoughts and feelings, and is very visual.

TITLE:
Fahrenheit 451
AUTHOR:
Ray Bradbury
REVIEWED BY:
Krystina Patch

Fahrenheit 451 is truly a most exciting and nail-biting book by Ray Bradbury. This is about the late twentieth century future, where people have forgotten about the past. During this time, society has advanced so much technology wise, that houses are fire proof. In my opinion Fahrenheit 451 is a choice novel to read. I think this because it portrays a future so sinister it's scary. It has a plentiful supply of suspense to keep you on the edge, (wishing the book would never end), and it unveils many outstanding morals that we don't realize it until we have experienced this book.

TITLE:
After the Rain
AUTHOR:
Norma Fox Mazer
REVIEWED BY:
Alyssa Bauman

After the Rain is a very heartwarming novel. It tells about a 15-year-old girl named Rachel who is discovering many things about herself. She has discovered a boy who likes her, and they go out. Most importantly, she has discovered that her dying grandfather needs her, although he does not say it in words. It is not until her grandfather dies that she realizes she really loved him. Like a lot of teenagers today, Rachel experienced the death of a loved one. Maybe this book will be of some help to others who have lost a loved one.

TITLE:

Allyson Neely

A Dream to Cherish is a great book because of its interesting characters, a good message, and it keeps you thinking. It is about a girl named Cassie going back to her old school where she sees her best friend has a crush on this guy and has no time for Cassie anymore. Cassie was just a normal teenage girl, but when she meets a senior in high school, her popularity goes up, and she meets new people. She was really enjoying life until something tragic happens to her new friend. The message of the book is if you have a dream, go after it. Also to stick to what you believe in no matter what.

TITLE:
Jubal Sacket
AUTHOR:
Louis L'Amour
REVIEWED BY:
Matthew Watermolen

Jubal Sacket is a very excellent book. The setting is in the Western United States in the late 1600's and early 1700's. It's about a man named Jubal Sacket who goes to the West to explore the mountains and fulfill his father's dreams. On his way he meets new friends and new enemies, such as several Indian tribes who try to kill his party. I liked this book because it has good characters, a lot of action, and good descriptions. I think the author tried to make the reader think they were right there with Jubal on his adventure. The theme of the story is that if you think you can do it, you should go for it.
